Dear Community Member:

We are looking to form a partnership with local businesses and community members who have an interest in cultivating a community with a greater appreciation for arts and culture, and providing a healthy after school alternative for local youth and teens. By sponsoring D’AIR Aerial Dance Ensemble’s performance of ‘BARRIERS’, we are hoping to forge such a partnership with you.

The DAIR Project is a 501c3 not-for-profit community arts organization. Through aerial dance, cultural, and movement arts, DAIR’s mission is to weave the fabric of the greater Atlanta community together to serve and empower our youth and teens.  DAIR is centrally located in a historic church nestled in the quant neighborhood of Grant Park close to downtown Atlanta, whose soaring ceilings provide a perfect sanctuary for aerial dance.  Aerial dance is a genre of dance that incorporates vertical space through the use of equipment such as suspended objects (trapezes, fabrics, ropes, hoops, ladders) or large structures (such as buildings or barriers) that add another dimension to dance.

DAIR’s programs include classes in aerial dance and a variety of movement arts, student performance opportunities, community cultural events and professional aerial dance productions.  At the heart of DAIR’s programming is its Youth and Teen Program, accessible to any child regardless of ability to pay.  The youth and teen program is a student earned program that requires a high level of commitment and accountability.

Through aerial dance classes students have the opportunity to develop creative talents and gain high levels of physical fitness, as aerial dance increases body awareness, flexibility, builds core strength and lean muscle. In addition, aerial dance offers a great avenue for students to learn self-discipline, gain a sense of empowerment, through team work a sense of appreciation and acceptance of each other, as well as a greater sense of being supported by and accountability to the community.  DAIR offers a safe and fun after school alternative for youth and teens, fostering positive behaviors that lead to healthier lifestyles during this critical junction in their lives.

All of DAIR’s programs ultimately help serve the youth and teen program, adult classes serve as earned income opportunities, the community events serve as opportunities for the youth and teens to perform and learn about different cultures and our professional adult company, D’AIR Aerial Dance Ensemble, not only serve as a role models and mentors, but their performances act as a major fundraiser for the organization.

D’AIR AERIAL DANCE ENSEMBLE

D’AIR Aerial Dance Ensemble, DAIR’s professional aerial dance company, currently comprises of seven members with backgrounds in movement arts as varied as they come. Through collaborative efforts, the strength of each of these performers permeates into their shows, creating truly unique multidisciplinary yet seamless productions. D’AIR produces one full-length production annually in March as part of a larger collective:  ‘ALWAYS’. Each show is intricately entwined with previous and future shows yet can be viewed as a unique entity or ‘Reveal’.  ‘VIEWS through a window’, was the first reveal, performed in March 2009.  Using a large three-dimensional steel window as a centerpiece for the show, imagery for a lens through which we see ourselves, and others, ‘VIEWS Through a Window’ encapsulated the search to the most inner part of our soul and stretching out to the furthest point on the horizon.  The show received rave reviews from audiences, including arts critic Steve Seiberg who claimed that ‘VIEWS must be the most original performance piece in town.' Currently D’AIR is preparing our second reveal, 'BARRIERS,' premiering in March 2010.  ‘BARRIERS’ will be a new journey with a new level of energy, new innovations, yet just as authentic, intimate and thought provoking.  This time a large steel fence stands as centerpiece of the show, representing one of many barriers that seemingly separates us.  With daring aerial acts on trapezes, fabrics, slings and invented apparatus, partner acrobatics, tumbling and contemporary dance, this show will be sure to push you to the edge of your seat.

We invite you to join our mission through sponsoring our production of ‘BARRIERS’.   All proceeds from our productions of ‘BARRIERS’ will go directly to supporting our youth and teen program.  Through your sponsorship as a community partner, you will help cultivate a community of cultural awareness and provide a free, healthy, educational after-school alternative to local youth and teens.  In addition to creating a stronger community, you will also gain a stronger presence within your community as we advertise your organization on our website, include your logo in our email campaign (900+members) and put your logo in our program for the event (expected audience: 400).  We hope to have the opportunity to partner with you in bringing this truly unique experience to our Atlanta community.
